J.Press X Buck Mason. Part II.

Three fashion shots against a neutral backdrop featuring a blue hoodie, a patterned blazer, and a pink sweater.

1902. Keep that date in mind. It’s the year that Latvian immigrant Jacobi Press opened a little campus shop in New Haven, Connecticut, that would become J. Press — establishing the American Ivy League look. From the undarted navy blazer to the oxford cloth button-down and brushed “Shaggy Dog” Shetland sweater, J. Press set the template for an aesthetic that’s been worn by presidents, screen icons, and jazz greats. Style, however, is not meant to be static, particularly after a century-plus of wear. This is why we’ve welcomed J. Press back for the second installment of our ongoing, multi-season collaboration. The latest includes lofty Shaggy Dog sweaters in earthy shades, a soft-shouldered English wool blazer and our own, vintage-inspired Toughknit Tee made right here in America. As before, we’re viewing the legendary retailer through our own, more muted interpretation of the Ivy look, informed by the modernist architecture of the UC system, the subdued sounds of West Coast jazz, and the last fading light of a Pacific sunset.
